EPScm is delighted to announce the successful completion of the reconfiguration of the Nuclear Medicine Department at Royal Brompton Hospital, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. Delivered on time and under budget, this project introduces a state-of-the-art facility that will significantly enhance diagnostic imaging capabilities and patient care.

INTRODUCING THE VERITON-CT GAMMA CAMERA

At the centre of this project is the installation of the VERITON-CT Solid State Gamma Camera—the first of its kind in a London NHS hospital. This cutting-edge scanner combines SPECT (single-photon emission computed tomography) and CT imaging technologies, offering a revolutionary step forward in medical diagnostics.

Patients of all ages will benefit from:

  • High-quality, 3D diagnostic scans that deliver faster and more accurate results.
  • A reduction in the number of additional tests, streamlining the diagnostic process.
  • An anticipated 20% increase in capacity in the first year, allowing the hospital to accommodate more referrals from across London.

This new technology will enhance the hospital’s ability to diagnose and monitor complex conditions, particularly in cardiac and pulmonary care, improving both treatment pathways and clinical outcomes.

COLLABORATION & SUCCESS

During the recent unveiling event, titled ‘Unveiling the Future of Nuclear Medicine Imaging’, special recognition was given to EPScm’s project managers Edd Hobbs and Nick Denton, for their proactive and inclusive approach throughout the project.

Dr. Kshama Wechalekar, Lead Consultant for Nuclear Medicine at Royal Brompton, expressed her excitement:

“I am truly excited to have this new technology in our department for our patients. Not only will patients have an improved experience during their scan, but the results delivered will be of the highest clinical standards, enabling optimisation of treatment and improved clinical outcomes. Crucially, the new camera will also open the door to several new research programmes for heart, lung, or any other organ imaging.”

ENHANCED PATIENT EXPERIENCE

The refurbishment of the Nuclear Medicine Department has not only focused on advanced technology but also on enhancing the overall patient experience. The addition of new artwork and calming light panels, designed by RB&HArts, has transformed the space into a more welcoming and comfortable environment for patients undergoing scans.

MAKING IT POSSIBLE: SUPPORT FROM ROYAL BROMPTON & HAREFIELD HOSPITALS CHARITY

The installation of the new Gamma Camera and the department’s refurbishment were made possible with the generous support of the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity. Their contribution underscores the importance of collaboration in delivering cutting-edge healthcare solutions that benefit both patients and clinicians alike.
